Theater of the Sea in Islamorada, FL

Theater of the Sea is an amazing marine animal park that is both entertaining and educational.  It is located at mile marker 84.5 in Islamorada.  You cannot miss the entrance to this beautiful park which is marked with a waterfall and gigantic conch shell.  Theater of the Sea was established in 1946 and is the second oldest marine mammal facility in the world.  The park is set on 17 acres of lush tropical landscaping and a natural saltwater lagoon.  The natural salt water lagoon in the park was originally a rock quarry that supplied materials for the construction of Henry Flagler’s famous Florida East Coast Railroad.  The quarry filled in with salt water and now forms the perfect habitat for an assortment of marine animals including the Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, California sea lions, sea turtles, tropical and game fish, sharks, stingrays as well as other marine life.  Through Theater of the Sea’s interactive swim programs you can swim with the dolphins, sea lions and stingrays in their natural saltwater lagoons.

Swim with the Dolphins – One exciting thing to do at Theater of the Sea is a swim with the dolphins.   This adventure allows you to get up close and personal with an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin.  You can swim with them as well as request trained behaviors such  as hugs, kisses and dorsal fin tows through the saltwater lagoon.

Swim with the Sea Lions – My personal favorite marine adventure is a swim with the sea lions.  These amazing creatures are so charismatic.  They truly steal your heart the moment you get in the water with them.  You will be able to swim around the lagoon with them as well as experience some of their trained behaviors such as hugs and kisses.   Their amazing humanlike mannerisms and behaviors make you fall immediately in love with them.

Swim with the Stingrays – Experience the unique adventure of swimming with the stingrays.  These amazing creatures are graceful, gentle and beautiful to watch.  You can feed them and touch them in the shallow waters of a sandy beach.   This is truly an unforgettable experience.

Theater of the Sea is an amazing place.  People of all ages will enjoy all this beautiful marine animal park.  It is definitely something that is not to be missed if you are traveling to Islamorada.  Reservation are recommended for all of the interactive swim programs.  There are a limited amount of spaces available each day, so it is best to book your adventure early.  The Theater of the Sea is open 365 days per year and con be contacted via telephone at (305) 664-2431.  More information is available on their website.
