Things to do in Key West

Key West is truly one of the best Florida vacation spots.  It is filled with a variety of things to do.  Whether you are looking for a relaxing place to get away, or for an adventure, Key West has it all.

Florida Vacation Spot - Duval Street, Key West, Florida

The Duval Crawl – Duval Street is the most famous street in Key West and it is filled with a variety of famous bars and restaurants (and great shopping, too!).  The Duval Crawl is the nickname that has been given to the pub crawl  most visitors participate in as they venture from one bar to another down Duval Street and is one of the most popular things to do in Key West.  Everything is within walking distance, and you are guaranteed to have a great time.   Some of the stops that are not to be missed include Irish Kevin’s and Sloppy Joe’s, which always have some of the best live entertainment.  And don’t forget to stop by Margaritaville, or try to throw a quarter in the grouper’s mouth in front of Captain Tony’s.  Please be aware that Key West does have an open container ordinance prohibiting the consumption of alcohol while walking from bar to bar, so make sure you finish your drink before you head to the next bar.

Scuba Dive the Vandenburg - If you enjoy scuba diving, then Key West is a great Florida vacation spot for you.  Key West has always had an abundance of beauty in the coral and sea life surrounding the island.  That beauty was made a bit more interesting on May 27, 2009, when the  Gen. Hoyt S Vandenberg, a former military troop transport and former missile tracking ship, was sunk seven miles off shore to create an artificial reef.  It is located in 140 feet of water in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.  The ships stacks, masts and antennas have been trimmed back to allow 40 feet of clearance overhead, which leaves the ship still standing 100 feet tall off the ocean floor.  This is an amazing site to see that is now being enveloped with coral, and has an abundance of marine wildlife living in and around it.
